Our Mission: We mobilize elders to build caring relationships that help children develop social, emotional, and academic skills, while cultivating meaningful connections to the community.

When you Give to the Max, you help Experience Corps bring intergenerational relationships and literacy to kindergarten through 3rd grade students across Minneapolis and St. Paul. Access to affordable supports such as individualized tutoring and meaningful relationships with a network of caring adults can be transformative for students and their academic success. Each year, over 100 community elders volunteer their valuable time and bring their skills, warmth and good humor to tutor students. Your donation will support the training, materials and infrastructure that provide the highest quality experience we can give our children.

Let our volunteers give you a glimpse into their days with our youngest community members:

"Anthony started out his 3rd grade year very quiet and asking very few questions, just stumbling through the words. He now asks so many questions we hardly can get a page read. He is understanding the content and context of what he is reading and is not just focusing on getting the words out. He told me he loves to read and wants to be a teacher."

"One day, Maria told me that her mom is learning to speak English, so she helps her practice at home. As a result, we agreed that she would tell her mom about the stories we read in tutoring. As she read, we would discuss and then rehearse how she would tell the story to her mom. A couple of weeks into doing this, the teacher came to me and said that she got a call from Maria's mom asking who this Mr. D was and how happy she was that Maria was telling her all those stories."
