Emerson SILC PTA

Emerson Dual Language Magnet is a pre-K through fifth grade school in the Loring Park neighborhood of Minneapolis and the oldest Spanish immersion program in Minnesota. We are proud to celebrate Latino culture and Hispanic heritage and to serve families with diverse backgrounds through our bilingual curriculum. Our goal is for all students to be curious lifelong learners and to develop the skills they need to reach their fullest potential as multilingual global citizens. 

Our talented and dedicated educators teach academic content in Spanish and English. Students begin their program in the lower grades at Emerson truly immersed in Spanish, receiving 90% of their instruction in Spanish and 10% in English. Instruction in English gradually increases, reaching 60% English and 40% Spanish by the time students graduate in fifth grade. Some of our students are native Spanish speakers, and others are Spanish learners. Over half of our families are low income, with 60% of students receiving free or reduced-price school lunch.

Can you help our PTA reach our goals this year?

·       A donation of $10 provides five new books for the media center to improve literacy rates.

·       A donation of $50 provides resources to Special Education teachers.

·       A donation of $100 provides one teacher with a stipend for classroom supplies for the year.

·       A donation of $500 provides food, decoration, and entertainment at a culturally appropriate event such as the annual Día de los Muertos celebration, Carnival, or a teacher appreciation event.

·       A donation of $6,000 covers the cost of one teaching assistant from a Spanish speaking country, someone who either has or is working toward a degree in education and comes to work at Emerson for the school year.
