Vision

We Educate and Empower People to Become their Best Selves by Discovering their God-Given Personal Power and Leadership Ability.

Mission

The Power of People Leadership Institute provides personal development and leadership training to mentor, empower, challenge and inspire youth and adults to overcome their obstacles and find success in every area of life.

The Power of People Leadership Institute, a community-based program founded and lead by husband-wife team Brother Shane Price and Dr. Verna Cornelia Price works to create positive and sustainable changes in urban communities through three core programs. We focus our programming and services to communities of color, particularly the African-American community.   Most of our participants, 70% reside in Minneapolis and/or the inner-ring suburbs of Hennepin County.  We are guided and inspired by a core understanding and belief that people were born powerful and that they will change their lives when they learn that change is possible through personal power and leadership development. All of our programs emerged from authentic needs in our community to create positive changes and change the trajectory of both our youth and adult ex-offenders.

1). Girls in Action™ (re-named Girls Taking Action in 2019) was founded in 2005 by Dr. Verna Cornelia Price to address the rise in violent, destructive, and delinquent behavior being exhibited by the female students at Minneapolis' North High School. Over the past 16 years, Girls Taking Action has impacted more than 5,000 girls in the Twin Cities Metro Area.  Girls Taking Action motivates, mentors, empowers, engages and educates girls to succeed in school and life. Through weekly mentoring groups we engage high school and middle school girls in personal development and leadership training.

2). The Re-Planting Program™, founded in 2006  by Brother Shane Price works with the Department of Corrections to provide offenders with pre and post release personal development and leadership training to reduce criminal thinking and behavior, increase reintegration and stability in the community, and increase access to employment, housing, system navigation, mental and chemical health services. The RePlanting Program has impacted over 6000 offenders, with 80% from the Twin Cities Metro Area.

3).  The Boys of Hope Program™ is a weekly program patterned after the Girls Taking Action mentoring model to reach boys in grades 6-12 to use their personal power to problem solve, attain self-regulation, maintain positive relationships, complete high school, enroll in college and most importantly stay out of the school to prison pipeline. We have reached over 300 boys with the program and in the fall of 2021 expanded the program to include 5 junior and senior high schools in the Twin Cities.
