Girls Taking Action

WE motivate, mentor, engage and educate GIRLS to succeed in school and life.

Our Story

Girls Taking Action (GTA) was founded in 2005 by Dr. Verna Cornelia Price to address a rise in violent, destructive and delinquent behavior among female students at North High School in Minneapolis.

Our program empowers and educates girls in grades 6-12 to find their power and change their lives, community and world.

GTA began with 100 girls, but now, fourteen years later, we have reached over 4,000 girls across the Twin Cities, Chicago, Atlanta, Guatemala, Kenya and Liberia.

Our Girls

"I graduated from North Community High School (Minneapolis, MN) in 2011.  That August I attended Saint Augustine University where I graduated this past May with my Bachelor's of Science Degree in Business Administration.  I was just hired as a General Management Consultant in Washington D.C.

Girls Taking Action (GTA) helped me become aware of my personal power and how to use it to be a leader within my community.  Now as a young woman I'm so thankful for the lessons GTA taught me and the things the program exposed me to because it motivated me to 'go for it' and chase after my dreams."
