The Playwrights' Center has long maintained a robust set of online resources, built to serve and connect our more than 2,200 playwright members around the globe. But now, as we face the unprecedented challenges of this COVID-19 pandemic, the Center has made radical changes to our offerings. Rather than postponing workshops and readings, we have shifted and even expanded our scheduled programming to create additional financial opportunities that help sustain artists during this moment of crisis. These efforts simultaneously provide inspiring, interactive online arts experiences accessible to audiences and students, worldwide.
All current online programming is entirely free and open to the public. Our website proudly promotes a weekly-rotating menu, including play readings, discussions on craft and the industry, commissioned articles written by masters of the field, classes and seminars, "office hours" with Center leadership, open community writing sessions, and more.
At the end of week five of our "new normal," we are proud to share that we have employed more than 90 freelance artists and shared our online theater with almost 1000 audience members across to globe ( from Duluth, MN to Melbourne, Australia.)
Did you know that the CARES Act includes a $300 (per individual) universal charitable deduction? With your help, we will confidently emerge from this time and continue our legacy of connecting visionary artists, students, theaters, and audiences. Please consider making a gift today.
