Pambazuka Africa

Pambazuka Africa is empowering those with disabilities and their families in rural Tanzania to see brighter futures providing practical support and education in the areas of healthcare, rehabilitation, and special education. Pambazuka is a Swahili word used to describe the first hint of light at sunrise. Families caring for a loved one with special needs carry an extra burden, in addition to the burdens of living in poverty in rural Tanzania. These families need our support to see some light in future days. The Pambazuka Special Education Center opened in November, 2012, and we opened the boarding program in September, 2013. We are providing a much needed resource for children who are unable to attend local schools due to their special physical or cognitive needs. In anticipation of the ongoing needs of our students and center, we are looking for sponsors to help us sustain this project.  There are a number of ways you can help! The following ongoing sponsorships will help us ensure that we do not have a sudden loss of funding. We also greatly appreciate one time donations! Please see below for an idea of what we can do with your gift. Ongoing Sponsoship Options ... 1. Pambazuka Friend: $10 a month will help cover the monthly needs of the school, including our food budget and staff salaries. 2. Student Sponsor: $30 a month will subsidize the special education of one of our students. We will connect you with a student and family, and send letters and progress reports. 3. Project Sponsor: $100 a month will help cover the monthly needs of the center, including staff salaries and our food budget. 4. Building Sponsor: $300 a month will cover the cost of renting our classroom and boarding space. Donors may choose to provide sponsorship donations on a monthly, biannual, or annual basis. Ongoing sponsorships for our special education project will help Pambazuka continue to assist community members with other needs such as rehabilitation equipment and therapy, and healthcare needs. Our larger vision is to build our own building to house the Pambazuka Special Education Center. We have secured the land, and we are raising money to put that land to good use. Money raised in this first stage of the project will be used to build a community resource center for caregiver seminars, vocational training, and special education; and to farm some of the land to help support the projects. In the future, we plan to build a guesthouse and restaurant that will employ those with disabilities. Our friends in Tanzania need your help!
