Support Or Emet: A Home for Wondering Jews
Or Emet, the Minnesota Congregation for Humanistic Judaism, is a caring and stimulating community of people who embrace a human-centered philosophy that combines reason and science with a celebration of Jewish culture and identity. Or Emet follows a non-theistic doctrine - meaning we focus on our shared identity, values, and cultural history - and welcomes all who identify with the history and culture of the Jewish people. Among the essential programming and services we offer our growing community are:
- The Jewish Cultural Sunday School, or JCSS, is Or Emet's monthly Jewish secular Sunday school program for preschoolers though bar/bat mitzvah age. The curriculum emphasizes Jewish history, culture, and the traditions that shape our identity and values. We welcome and affirm children of interfaith, intercultural, and LGBTQI families.
- Life cycle ceremonies and services, among them Baby Namings, Bar and Bat Mitzvahs, Weddings and Commitment Ceremonies, and Funerals. Our rabbinic candidate, Eva Cohen, and our Ritual Committee works closely with individuals and families in crafting a ceremony that meets their wishes and celebrates the person(s) of focus.
- Inclusive and engaging High Holiday services as well as a very popular community Passover Seder, led by our rabbi-in-training Eva Cohen
- Dynamic and thought-provoking monthly programs for adults (concurrently with the JCSS), and monthly Friday night Shabbats. These free, and open to the public Sunday and Friday programs include speakers and discussions of issues ranging from social justice to music performances to environmental justice to local Jewish history .
Funds raised will help Or Emet fund our services, activities and special events, and allow the Jewish Cultural Sunday School to continue to provide quality education and growth opportunities for our young students at an affordable rate.
Your donation is much appreciated, and we're glad to have your support!
