One Voice Mixed Chorus

A nonprofit organization

$6,555 Raised by 72 Donors

These days there are a lot of empty spaces—inside and out. One Voice  is filling those spaces with with connection, community, and song! Check out this message from Artistic Director Jane Ramseyer Miller to see what we’ve been up to and a preview of what’s ahead.

Throughout the pandemic, One Voice has chosen to innovate and accelerate rather than hibernate. Our mission is building community and creating social change by raising our voices in song—and we believe that mission is more important today than ever before.

Every donation keeps Minnesota singing!

Weekly virtual rehearsals. Streaming original concerts for free. Organizing statewide sing-alongs. Collaborating with other choirs and organizations. These are just a few ways One Voice is showing up during COVID-19. Here's how people are responding:

"Sang with our neighbors in Duluth. Came inside, looked at these posts, and sobbed for the first time since this pandemic started.”

“I was on my screen porch, singing my heart out. Somehow it didn’t feel quite so lonely/alone for a bit.”

"Monday Night Live is the thing that I look forward to every week. It's what is keeping me going."

Our History

One Voice Mixed Chorus, Minnesota’s lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender, and straight allies (LGBTA) community chorus, was formed in 1988—one of the first choruses in the country to bring together people from the GLBT and allied communities. The intent was to unite for a common goal of creating social change through music; the gay and lesbian communities had already begun working together to address the AIDS crisis, which had reached astronomical proportions, and it was clear that further social change was needed.

Today, One Voice is one of the largest LGBTQA choruses in North America. It is comprised of 125 singers of diverse cultural backgrounds, from ages 15 to 81, drawn together as members and allies of the GLBT community. Being a member of One Voice is a profound experience for many chorus members, affecting their sense of identity and connection to community. One Voice could not exist without the volunteer efforts of its members and supporters, who contribute 4,000 to 5,000 volunteer hours annually. Together, we dedicate our time and energy to the One Voice mission: “Building community and creating social change by raising our voices in song.”
