A European-style boys' choir for our Minnesota boys: discipline, respect, and musical excellence

For the North Star Boys’ Choir, the inflation now and previous lockdowns made our very existence uncertain.  Like so many organizations, we almost had to shut down entirely.  But to paraphrase a famous forgetful fish, we were determined to "just keep singing, singing, singing."  This year we have even more boys in the choir, and we have a Christmas season packed with concerts and other events.  But we're not out of the woods yet.

In normal years, it takes a lot to keep an organization like this going year-round.  With inflation affecting bus expenses, rental space, admissions, meals and lodging, the choir took an unusually large hit.  So this week, we are asking for your support.  A generous friend of the choir has agreed to double-match donations up to $2500 as part of the Give to the Max event this week (for a bonus of up to $5000).  So if you're going to donate, donate this week!  (See below for three ways to easily donate online.)

The choir has a policy of never turning away a boy because of an inability to pay. To give you an idea of what that means, here are some of the most common costs:

  • International tour for one boy: $3200
  • US tour for one boy: $1600
  • One year of tuition for a Viking Choir boy (touring choir): $1200
  • One year of tuition for a Cadet Choir boy (training choir): $720
  • One year of tuition for a Music Magic boy (youngest choir): $450
  • One week at resident camp for a boy: $300
  • One week at day camp for a boy: $80
  • One polo shirt for a boy’s uniform: $25

Will you help the choir by making a donation this week for Give to the Max (and take advantage of the double-matching)?  If you have the means, you might even consider an amount to cover one of the above costs for a boy.

If you want to donate online, here are a few options:

  1. Our PayPal Giving Fund page: https://www.paypal.com/fundraiser/charity/2272447
Note: PayPal covers all the fees, so the choir receives 100% of your donation. (This is the same link as the yellow Donate button on our website.)
  2. Our GiveMN page: https://www.givemn.org/organization/northstarboyschoir/
Note: GiveMN organizes and promotes the annual Give to the Max Day in November. They take a small cut to fund their operations, but they have a bonus drawing every hour for organizations that received a donation during the day.
  3. Your company’s giving site.  A lot of companies match donations, so if you’d like to double your donation through your company, that works for us too!  We’re a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, but if you can’t find North Star Boys’ Choir when you search your company’s giving site, email staff@northstarboyschoir.org and we’ll get the choir added.

One last thought: The choir's mission is to grow young boys into good men through musical excellence, respectful behavior, and hard work. When you support the choir, you’re not just helping this year’s group of boys; you're building and sustaining a legacy so future boys can experience the North Star Boys’ Choir for many years to come.

Thank you for your support and generosity, especially as we keep working hard to rebuild this year and accelerate into next year with an even greater ability to have a positive, lasting effect on even more boys.
