We support Northeast Minnesota people and communities working toward a future where everyone feels they belong and can thrive.

The Northland Foundation is a publicly supported, place-based foundation serving seven Northeast Minnesota counties: Aitkin, Carlton, Cook, Itasca, Koochiching, Lake, and St. Louis, and all or parts of five neighboring Native nations: Bois Forte Band of Chippewa, Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa, Grand Portage Band of Lake Superior Chippewa, Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe (District I), and Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe (District II).

We humbly acknowledge that the region we serve rests on both ancestral and contemporary lands of Anishinaabe/Ojibwe and other Native people.

The cornerstones of our work are to Support the next generations to learn, achieve, and succeed ▪ Help people of all ages and walks of life to achieve security, equity, and belonging ▪ Strengthen economic opportunity that is accessible and equitable.

Alongside many partners working at the local, regional, state, and national levels, we:

  • Provide grants to nonprofits, governmental entities, and Native American individuals and groups.
  • Support small businesses with loans and consulting services.
  • Deliver programs and special initiatives.
  • Bring people together to share ideas and collaborate.

With the help of engaged community members and donors who believe in our mission, the Northland Foundation continues to grow as a resource and advocate for Northeast Minnesota.
