Northern Lakes Rescue is a 501(c)(3) foster home-based dog rescue. NLR is an organization run by several volunteers that work hard everyday to help save dogs not only here in Minnesota shelters, reservations, and owner surrenders, but also in Texas, including strays on the streets of Houston, Chained Dogs of Houston, and high-kill shelters (a number of which come to the rescue being heartworm positive).
Our volunteers devote the time and work necessary for these dogs to be rehabilitated and able to live happy lives with loving families.
All dogs are completely vetted through NLR. Additionally, all new adopters are provided with numerous resources throughout the adoption process and throughout the life of their companion.
Northern Lakes Rescue not only rescues dogs, but also focuses on helping people in need, donating food and supplies to low-income shelters, and assisting owners that need help keeping their current dogs.
Here at Northern Lakes Rescue you just don't adopt a dog, you are adopted into our family!

We believe in giving as many dogs as possible a second chance to thrive with a loving forever family.
For some of our dogs, this second chance comes with unexpected and sometimes even emergent medical care that includes examination by a veterinarian, medical treatment, medications, and even surgery. With the help of our incredible donors, Northern Lakes Rescue pays for all of this medical care without passing the cost on to the individual or family who ultimately adopts the dog.
At this time, we have $3,509 in outstanding medical bills for dogs we rescued this year with another $9,900 in anticipated medical bills through January 2022 that includes surgeries for three of our dogs.
Our veterinary partners are incredible, often working with us by providing discounts and some even allowing us to make payments so that our dogs can receive the care they need without delay. But with more than 22 dogs needing unexpected or emergent care so far in 2021, we are left with more cost than our current donations can cover.
So for 2021's GivingTuesday, we are raising funds to pay off our outstanding balance owed to our incredible area veterinarians and cover our upcoming vet bills through January 2022. All of your donations to this campaign, minus any processing fees from this site or credit card companies, will go toward this goal of $13,409.
Any amount raised beyond the $13,409 will go toward our stretch goal of $6,000 to cover the cost of a new furnace for our building. Our furnace was 20 years old and finally went out just before winter set in this year, so we have now replaced it with a new, energy efficient furnace, as well as replaced our building's thermostat, added need vent ducts to part of our facility to prevent our pipes from freezing. We have an outstanding invoice that we need to pay for the furnace, thermostat, and additional duct work that have been installed in our building.
GivingTuesday is an annual global day of generosity that will take place this year on November 30, 2021.
It was created in 2012 as a simple idea: a day that encourages people to do good. Over the past nine years, this idea has grown into a global movement that inspires hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity.
GivingTuesday is an opportunity for people to come together to thank, help, give, show kindness, and share what they have with those in need.
We are focused on raising the funds we need to completely pay-off our outstanding veterinary bills from 2021. So any amount you can donate makes a difference! Every dollar gets us closer to being able to pay off this debt and continue rescuing more dogs.
But GivingTuesday is about more than just financial support-- your time, kindness, skills, and voice are all things you can give in addition to financial donations.
We encourage you to give in any way you can this GivingTuesday, so here are some ways you can support our rescue:
