Our Little Rescue

Northern Lakes Rescue is a 501(c)(3) foster home-based dog rescue. NLR is an organization run by several volunteers that work hard everyday to help save dogs.

Our volunteers devote the time and work necessary for these dogs to be rehabilitated and able to live happy lives with loving families. 

All dogs are completely vetted through NLR. Additionally, all new adopters are provided with numerous resources throughout the adoption process and throughout the life of their companion.

Northern Lakes Rescue not only rescues dogs, but also focuses on helping people in need, donating food and supplies to low-income shelters, and assisting owners that need help keeping their current dogs.

Our Current Goals

We believe in giving as many dogs as possible a second chance to thrive with a loving forever family. 

For some of our dogs, this second chance comes with unexpected and sometimes even emergent medical care that includes examination by a veterinarian, medical treatment, medications, and even surgery. With the help of our incredible donors, Northern Lakes Rescue pays for all of this medical care without passing the cost on to the individual or family who ultimately adopts the dog.

At this time, we have over $30,000 of various expenses from supplies to vetting to taxes that are currently due. Vendors have been very understanding and have been working with us to get caught up. We are working tirelessly to do this to continue moving forward. Our veterinary partners are incredible, often working with us by providing discounts and some even allowing us to make payments so that our dogs can receive the care they need without delay. We cannot do this without donations from people like you.

So for 2023's Give to the Max, we are raising funds to pay off our outstanding balance owed to our incredible area veterinarians and cover our upcoming vet bills through January 2024 and in addition all of the past due balances that have popped up. All of your donations to this campaign, minus any processing fees from this site or credit card companies, will go toward this goal of $30,000.

Any amount raised beyond the $30,000 will go toward future care of our current and future dogs in our program. 

What is Give to the Max?

Give to the Max Day was created in 2009 to launch GiveMN, a collaborative venture led by Minnesota Community Foundation and many other organizations committed to helping make our state a better place. 

The initial spark touched off an outpouring of generosity - $14 million in 24 hours. Since then, Give to the Max Day has become Minnesota's annual giving holiday, raising more then $250 million in its first 13 years. Every year, thousands of organizations and individuals generate donations and excitement for Minnesota causes that are working to improve the quality of life for all Minnesotans. 

Give to the Max Day has become a national model for giving days. 

How can you help?

Give to the Max is an opportunity for people to come together to thank, help, give, show kindness, and share what they have with those in need.

We are focused on raising the funds we need to completely pay-off our outstanding veterinary bills from 2022. So any amount you can donate makes a difference! Every dollar gets us closer to being able to pay off this debt and continue rescuing more dogs.

But Give to the Max is about more than just financial support-- your time, kindness, skills, and voice are all things you can give in addition to financial donations.
