Give Now and your donation will be matched 4-to-1!

As the country’s first rural public radio station, KAXE has been “people-powered” for nearly 50 years. This year on Give to the Max Day, you have an incredible opportunity to kick start the next 50 and support local journalism.

Thanks to a match from the McKnight Foundation, KAXE has received an additional $9,000 in matching funds until the end of the year.

This is in addition to the $35,000 in matches provided by the Rural Partners Fund, the MacArthur Foundation and our local Community Match as part of NewsMatch 2025, a national campaign supporting independent, nonprofit newsrooms.

This means, your gift of up to $1,000 will now be matched 4-to-1 until the end of the year, while matching funds remain.

Donations raised will support KAXE’s growing local newsroom and coverage of key regional issues, including funding cuts to libraries, school referendums and local elections. Funds will also support the Up North Report, the station’s 5-minute daily newscast.

It's been a difficult year for public radio, but you have the chance to help us end it on a high note and continue to redefine what it means to be “people-powered radio.”

About Us: KAXE/KBXE—also known as Northern Community Radio—is a first-of-its-kind rural public radio station in Northern Minnesota. Our station is powered by more than 100 community volunteers and a small staff who are committed to bringing high-quality programming to listeners in Northern Minnesota and beyond. Northern Community Radio is a different kind of radio. When you tune in to KAXE, you hear Northern Minnesota: its people, environment, communities, and attitude.
