Supporters will help us fund a scholarship for an Edison High School student to continue their music involvement after high school.

The Northeast Community Band is in its 21st season (22, if you count an 18-month pandemic hiatus that prevented us from rehearsing and performing!). We gather Thursday nights during the school year, adults and teens, to play marches, show tunes and other classic selections for wind band. We practice from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Edison High School in Minneapolis and perform several concerts from September through June. Most members have renewed their passion after a hiatus of several years, and some have recently taken up playing as adults. There are no auditions, although student musicians should consult with our Director. We all pay annual dues of $60, which pays our director.

This year we are funding a $1,000 scholarship for an Edison High School student who exemplies the "community" in music and plans to continue their involvement in music after high school. They may or may not be a music major. The Ralph Sowden Memorial scholarship is named after Ralph Sowden, who graduated from Edison in 1971 and who served as NECB's treasurer for 20 years. He passed away in 2021.
