Due to the current economic situation, people are being thrown into difficult situations they never expected.  Many of us are just one crises - a job loss, a medical situation, a change in family situation - away from disaster.  Now, on top of this, try to imagine having to figure out where your next meal will come from.

People are already stretching their budgets as far as they possibly can.  This is why North Country's services are so important.  North Country can help provide the food people need to get by and still have money to pay their rent, buy their prescriptions, and fill their gas tanks.

For every $1 received, North Country provides enough food for 4 meals. We distribute more than 7 million pounds of food to agencies that serve, children, senior citizens, and families in need.  North Country acquires good quality food and non-food products that have been donated locally and nationwide with the goal of helping people meet basic needs.

North Country has grown to reach thousands of people in cities, small towns and rural areas in northwest and west central Minnesota.  North Country's reach covers 21 counties and and extends from the Canadian border south as far as Browns Valley, and from the North Dakota border east as far as Bemidji and Osakis.

Food is a targeted need.  North Country's primary target population is low-income, working poor, single parent families, and people experiencing homelessness.  Many of these people seek assistance from local food shelves, emergency shelters and soup kitchens.  Other recipients include low-income individuals in need of supplemental assistance, group homes, senior programs, youth programs, addiction treatment centers and domestic abuse programs.

Many people in northwest and west central Minnesota do not talk openly about hunger.  And if they are hungry, they tend to try and suffer through it - often believing other people need help more than they do.  North Country is working hard to carry the message that people in our very own communities need help.  It is North Country's belief that nobody in northwest and west central Minnesota should go to bed hungry.

North Country's hunger fighting partners are depending on North Country to provide food for those in need - especially during these difficult economic times.  North Country is committed to making sure all of our neighbors have plenty to eat every day.  But, we cannot do it without your help and the support of the public and the communities we serve.
