The Nepal Social Service Fund (NSSF)
Changing the World - One Community at a Time
The work of the NSSF began in a community along a stretch of the mountainside in western Nepal.
Today, thirty years later, the NSSF has partnered with many Nepali communities to bring healthcare, education, agricultural training, and emergency relief to thousands of women, men, children, and families – lifting the health, well-being, and economy of each community. To guarantee sustainability, the NSSF has trained health workers, and veterinarians, and shared best practices in agriculture. Literacy class graduates have teamed together to create co-operative alliances supporting community-wide initiatives, marketing coalitions, and microfinance banks.
June 2021 Update
Covid-19 Global Crisis
The country of Nepal is experiencing a devastating second wave of the coronavirus – with heartbreaking health and humanitarian consequences.
During this Covid-19 crisis, NSSF staff and trained volunteer health workers will continue to provide essential medical care, wellness education, and emotional support to the people in the communities they serve - including and especially caring for those touched by the coronavirus.
NSSF staff and volunteer health workers regularly visit village households to care for and comfort the sick, identify serious medical conditions, and inform, educate, and empower people about health issues in their community.
Each staff member and volunteer health worker carry a mobile medical backpack that includes basic health care supplies such as a stethoscope, oximeter, thermometer, blood pressure cuff, first aid kits (including medical gauze, dressings, bandages), personal protective equipment (masks, gloves, soap, sanitizers), medicines, and a flashlight and headlamp to see in the dark.
Wellness Education
A primary mission of the NSSF is to provide wellness education to community members about major diseases and how they spread including the coronavirus - but also tuberculosis, cholera, malaria, and typhoid fever, all life-threatening illnesses still present in Nepal.
NSSF staff and volunteer health workers educate communities on the importance of good nutrition, first aid and wound care, and sanitation guidelines to ensure safe food, water, and toilets.

Nepal Social Service Fund Guiding Principles
To Thrive - people must have education, access to quality health care, and viable ways to earn a living.
To Succeed - NSSF program staff must work at the grassroots level and partner with community members to identify needs and develop realistic and effective solutions to community concerns.
To Reach All Community Members - NSSF staff must speak the local language of the communities they work in.
To Guarantee Sustainability - Local people must be trained to manage programs and provide services for their own families, friends and community members.
The Mission of the Nepal Social Service Fund
...to lay the foundation for sustainable development, growth and innovation by providing meaningful and relevant education, quality health care, agricultural best practices, and practical and profitable income generating opportunities.
Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.
