Since 1989, NeDA has worked to build vibrant and thriving communities...

Homeownership Counseling & Education

At NeDA, we are driven by a vision of equity. We work to close the homeownership gap and expand opportunities for historically marginalized communities in Minnesota. Through tailored education and one-on-one counseling, we empower communities of color to access financial services with confidence. Our experienced counselors guide families every step of the way on their path to homeownership. Join us in building brighter futures—your gift helps make these journeys possible.

Financial Counseling & Education

We enhance financial literacy for the Latino community, helping individuals set goals, reduce debt, and improve credit scores through specialized coaching and engaging workshops.

NeDA Centro de Finanzas

Our Centro de Finanzas offers credit builder loans and down payment assistance for families. We also provide affordable home improvement loans to support sustainable homeownership.

Development

NeDA manages 204 rental units, including the newly opened Stryker Senior facility, which provides 57 affordable senior housing units.

Daycare Space

NeDA provides daycare space for 75+ Somali families, creating a safe and nurturing environment where children can thrive while parents pursue opportunities for stability and growth.

Changing the Odds—From Dream to Doorstep

In just the past three and a half years, NeDA has helped 2,170 households through 1:1 counseling and 655 through group education, while managing 204 affordable rental units in West and East St. Paul and operating Somali daycare services that remove childcare barriers to employment. Together, these integrated services create a continuum of support—from stable renting to sustainable homeownership.

NeDA is a HUD-approved counseling agency, a certified CDFI, and a nationally recognized Adoptive Agency of the National Industry Standards for Homeownership Education and Counseling. As CDFI, we have issued more than 500 credit-builder loans totaling $770,000 with an exceptionally low default rate of just 0.01%, while administering down payment assistance and home improvement loans. This dual role—as both a financial institution and a trusted community-based nonprofit—uniquely positions us to deploy funds efficiently, manage risk effectively, and guide families from intake through sustained homeownership.

Our results speak for themselves: in the past three years, 159 households became homeowners in a challenging market—purchasing homes averaging $267,000, with an average of $15,128 in cash to close. Together, these families generated $42.2 million in community investment while building wealth, strengthening Minnesota’s workforce, and narrowing the racial homeownership gap.

With WBD’s partnership, 10 more Latino families will cross the threshold into homeownership through $20,000 in combined down payment assistance per household ($15,000 from Minnesota Housing layered with $5,000 from WBD). Your investment strengthens a high-performing, accountable CDFI delivering comprehensive housing solutions that stabilize neighborhoods, support working parents, and multiply economic opportunities across the Twin Cities.
