National Alliance for Thrombosis and Thrombophilia

A nonprofit organization

It is estimated that more people die from blood clots than from breast cancer, AIDS or automobile accidents. Most are preventable.

Blood clots can strike anyone at any age.  Brian Robison, Minnesota Vikings DE found this out first hand when he developed two blood clots in his leg at only 25.  Active, healthy and strong, Brian was shocked when he woke one morning to find his leg was swollen.  Knowing something was not right, he went to his team doctor to have it checked out.  The doctor recognized the symptoms as a possible blood clot and sent Brian to the hospital where he had two clots surgically removed.  Had the blood clots gone undiagnosed, they may have broken off and travelled to Brian's lungs (pulmonary embolism).  One in three people die from pulmonary embolism.

Unfortunately, there is not a lot of awareness by the general public or even many healthcare providers of what the signs, symptoms, risk factors and treatment options are for blood clots. The Minnesta Chapter for the National Alliance for Thrombosis and Thrombophilia is working hard to raise awareness of this serious health condition.

Your donations enable us to provide education and outreach so more Minnesotans have a positive outcome like Brian's.
