Dear Friends of the MSP Film Society,
This year marks our 60th Anniversary as Minnesota’s leading nonprofit exhibitor of international independent film. It also marks the launch of our exciting New Chapter at The Main Cinema!
By donating to our organization on this Give-to-the-Max Day, you will help us continue to uphold a legacy of uniting, informing and transforming through the power of great cinema.
Your ongoing and generous support and enthusiasm for our programming matters! We do it for you, and we can’t do it without you…
Thank you!
No donation is too big or too small, as they say. However, if you donate $60 in honor of our 60th Anniversary, we invite you to choose either of the following film pairings as a thank you for helping us continue our mission:
Jean-Luc Godard’s BREATHLESS - 1pm on Sunday, January 8, 2023 AND
Satyajit Ray’s THE MUSIC ROOM - 1pm on Sunday, January 22, 2023
OR
Akira Kurosawa’s RASHOMON - 1pm on Sunday, January 15, 2023 AND
Krzysztof Kieślowski’s THE DOUBLE LIFE OF VÉRONIQUE - 1pm on Sunday, January 29, 2023
Donate $120+ to see all four films!
The Main Cinema - now operated by MSP Film Society:
MSP Film Society is committed to fostering a knowledgeable and vibrant appreciation of the art of cinema and its power to unite, inform and transform individuals and communities.
Our mission is accomplished through the exhibition of the very best of new local, domestic, and international independent films that are otherwise largely inaccessible to audiences throughout the region. The notable award-winning films we showcase represent an impressive range of stories and experiences. Screenings are often enriched by conversations with filmmakers and experts on an array of topics, providing our audiences the opportunity to share transformative cinematic experiences.
Our mission is carried out through year-round programming of independent releases from around the globe; the annual Minneapolis St. Paul International Film Festival - the largest international arts event in the region presenting 250+ films representing more than 100 cultures and countries each year to a diverse audience of 50,000; the annual Cine Latino MSP Film Festival - the Upper Midwest's only showcase of new Latin American and Iberian cinema celebrating 10 years in 2022; and other film programs such as We the People: Required Watching, an ongoing series of films that powerfully speak to systemic inequality followed by community discussions with filmmakers and local leaders.
Founded in 1962, and celebrating our 60th anniversary in 2022!, the Film Society of Minneapolis St. Paul or MSP Film is Minnesota’s foremost film exhibition organization, and a 501(c)(3) non-profit. We bring the best of international independent film to Minnesota audiences through the Minneapolis St. Paul International Film Festival, numerous niche film festivals and series, and daily programming 365-days a year.
We promote the art of film as a medium that fosters cross-cultural understanding, education, entertainment, and exploration. We offer audiences unique opportunities to experience the wealth of international cinema, to engage with and learn from visiting international filmmakers, and to come together and share these experiences as a community.
Our programming serves a growing membership base and diversifying audiences of 80,000+ annually.
