MIRAC is an all-volunteer grassroots organization that has mobilized and educated the immigrant community and their allies since 2006. We believe that no one is illegal and center our work under this belief. We are led by predominantly BIPOC & immigrant community members. For over 15 years, MIRAC has mobilized community members to take action through community education, protests, marches, and demonstrations. We organize with Twin Cities residents in order to bring to light the injustices committed against immigrants in this country such as non-consensual sterilization, increased immigration form fees, and the separation of families.

Below is a non-comprehensive list of some of the things we’ve focused on in the last 12 months:

1. Championed the Drivers Licenses for All Legislation at the State Capitol. Immigrants and immigrants rights organizations in the Twin Cities, such as MIRAC, had been organizing to get this legislation passed for 20 years.

2. Continued our commitment to serving the immigrant community by organizing free English classes, including a summer program in collaboration with Whittier International School and Freedom School. These classes offer students a space to learn about relevant topics to their lives during each class. This year, some of the topics we covered included information about the Drivers Licenses for All legislation and instruction on how to get emergency medical care. These classes are hosted alongside a childcare program that supports parent learners and free food for anyone that comes. These classes are taught by members of MIRAC, including licensed English Language Learning educators.

3. Supported a 10 member delegation to the San Diego and Tijuana border to learn more about the border crisis. The MIRAC delegation members met with Casa de Luz representatives and others working to assist immigrants detained and trapped at the border. Their learning about the inhumane treatment of immigrants at the border and conversations with coalitions across the country informed the report back presentations that disseminate information about the border crisis to residents of the Twin Cities.

4. Organized multiple successful marches and protests in coalitions with other movement and labor organizations. We continued to organize demonstrations to demand legalization for all. We organized a civil disobedience in front of Senator Amy Klobuchar’s office demanding movement on legal status for the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals or DACA residents. We also led coalitions to organize demonstrations for May Day and Taking Back Pride.

With your support, we can continue our programs and others like them. We are committed to the liberation of immigrants in this nation and will continue to act on injustice as well as invite and inspire other community members to join the movement. MIRAC is an all volunteer organization, so 100% of your donation will go directly into funding our work. If you have any questions about our work or want to get involved please contact us at miracmn@gmail.com
