MIRAC is an all-volunteer grassroots organization that mobilizes and educates the immigrant community and their allies. We believe no one is illegal and center our work under this belief. The organization is led by predominantly BIPOC & immigrant community members. For over 15 years MIRAC has mobilized communities to take action via community education, protests, marches, and demonstrations. We engage with Twin Cities folks in order to bring to light injustices against immigrants, such as non-consensual sterilization, increased immigration form fees, and separation of families.
Below is a non-comprehensive list of some of the activities we’ve focused on in the last 12 months:
Organized community English classes for recent immigrants. These classes offer students a space to learn about relevant topics in the community during each class. Classes include childcare, food, and are taught by licensed educators.
Continued our ongoing campaign for legalization for all immigrants with DACA, TPS and DED statuses. We met with U.S. representatives and senators, and organized multiple protests to promote our campaign.
Organized two DACA renewal workshops in 2022 to support individuals who needed support with their paperwork. This continues our work from previous years. This work was supported by a grant from First Universalist Church. To date, more than 58 individuals have received full support including the $495. renewal fee charged by Dept. of Homeland Security.
Began a campaign we call "immigrant Power Now" which focuses on making the Minneapolis Municipal ID a reality and nine other ways that the city of Minneapolis can improve the lives of immigrants in our communities.
Created a new website, which is more interactive, more informative of current actions and events, and provides a place for making donations. Check it out: miracmn.com
With your support we can continue to mobilize against injustice. 100% of your funds will directly support our mobilization and community education. All of our members volunteer their time. If you have any questions about our work or want to get involved, please contact: miracmn@gmail.com
