MTM collects, preserves, and shares transportation history from Minnesota and the upper Midwest.
Minnesota was once a wilderness, traversed only by native Americans and hearty settlers. After the Civil War the state was woven together by railroads, connecting practically every town to the outside world. Over time fast, luxurious passenger trains were developed providing reliable and comfortable service. While most people travel in other ways today, freight trains dominate the landscape, continually evolving while moving the nation's products from coast to coast.
You can still experience the era when railroads were "the" way to travel! The Minnesota Transportation Museum collects, restores, and operates vintage railroad equipment, allowing adults and children alike to experience a bygone era. We aspire to preserve history, tell the story and share our collective experiences with the greater community.
