Minnesota Federated Humane Societies

Every year there are numerous reports of animal cruelty, abuse, torture or neglect across the state of Minnesota. Still, we are aware that many cases go unreported or unresolved, leaving those animals to potentially suffer or worse. Since 1987, Minnesota Federated Humane Societies has prioritized calls from concerned citizens, veterinarians and law enforcement who report suspected cases of animal cruelty, abuse, torture or neglect to our office. Upon receiving reports, the MFHS staff and team of state humane agents investigates the case in partnership with law enforcement officers to use the tools and training they’ve been given to help ensure the applicable animal welfare laws are enforced. We support animals from the first report of abuse through the prosecution process, during which we assist in documenting evidence and providing charging recommendations. We play a critical and essential role in bringing perpetrators of animal crimes to justice. 

While we’re authorized in Minnesota statute, we operate as an independent nonprofit organization. We are not currently government funded. Your donation to MFHS provides the funding to:

• Train, equip, and appoint state humane agents to address and investigate reports of Minnesota animal welfare law violations
• Provide animal welfare related information and animal welfare laws education to law enforcement and the public
• Support and provide continuing education and training to our dedicated staff who are reviewing all the incoming animal cruelty reports and requests for information pertaining to animals and animal welfare all across the state of Minnesota

Animal cruelty, abuse, torture and neglect are crimes. Minnesota law provides protections for all animals. Minnesota Federated Humane Societies helps to uphold and enforce those laws.
