Why It Matters and What We've Done

1. Big Money’s Stranglehold

The Threat: Big money in politics is shaping who runs for office, what issues get attention, and whose voices are heard. Billionaires, super PACs, and dark-money groups pour huge sums into campaigns, drowning out Minnesotans who can’t afford to compete. The result is policies that favor wealthy donors instead of the public interest — and growing cynicism about whether government still works for everyone. 
How We’ve Responded: We’ve successfully championed reforms to expand public financing, increase transparency, and limit the influence of big and dark money in our politics.   

2. Election Disinformation and Division

The Threat: Democracy depends on shared facts and fair outcomes. When false claims about our elections take hold, they divide communities and weaken trust in election results and can lead to eligible voters not casting their ballot and at times, political violence. 
How We’ve Responded:  We’ve reached hundreds of thousands of Minnesotans through trusted messengers, forums, and campaigns that build confidence that every vote counts and every result can be trusted.

3. Safeguarding Our Freedom to Vote

The Threat: Abuse of power and efforts to dismantle long-standing election safeguards put the 2026 elections and beyond at serious risk. Across the country, restrictions on mail voting and proof-of-citizenship requirements are spreading — blocking millions of eligible voters from casting ballots. 
How We’ve Responded: We’ve defended Minnesota’s strong system at the Legislature, pushed back against proposals that would limit access, and worked with statewide coalitions to keep voting free, fair, and accessible and given voters actions they can take to protect it.

Our Plan for 2025–2026: Three Pillars to Defend Democracy

1. Advocate for Fair Elections at the Legislature: Advance reforms that protect every eligible Minnesotan’s freedom to vote and curb the influence of big and dark money. 

2.  Educate About Threats to Democracy and How to Defend it: Help Minnesotans understand what’s at stake — from efforts to restrict voting and expand dark-money influence to the spread of misinformation that undermines confidence in our elections. We’ll give people the facts and practical steps they can take to defend their right to vote, demand transparency, and strengthen our democracy.

3.  Build Trust in Elections and Election 0utcomes:  We will build trust by meeting voters where they are using local and national research. We will run social media campaigns, forums, and media outreach featuring trusted messengers — election workers, veterans, and community leaders that Minnesota elections are clean, fair, accurate and secure.  We will build on our 2024 success with a goal of reaching half a million voters and getting them to take action.
