The overwhelming influence of money in politics threatens our democracy and needs to be reined in. It’s a problem for everyday voters across party lines. The spread of misinformation causes confusion and frustration and contributes to increased polarization and distrust of democratic institutions which leads to cynicism, violence, and voter suppression.
Clean Elections Minnesota strives to be the lead nonpartisan nonprofit organization in Minnesota that advocates to limit the impact of money in politics and building public trust and support for Minnesota elections and election outcomes to build a healthy and inclusive democracy.
We work to limit the impact of money in politics by advocating to increase public financing and decrease big-money interest donations to campaigns. We advocate for more transparency so that dark money – funding that cannot be linked back to the individuals providing it – no longer plays a dominant role in Minnesota elections.
We work for Minnesota voters to be informed and engaged, know the elements of a healthy democracy, and motivate them to protect and expand it. Through education and campaigns to counter disinformation, we increase trust in Minnesota elections and election outcomes to build strong public support of the democratic process.
We also work for fair and easy access voting resulting in increased registration and voting across all ages, races, locations, and abilities. And work to ensure that the majority rules: control of policy making is by the majority of citizens; and that Minnesota’s elections are consistently open, clean, and democratic. We do this by working with democracy coalitions and actively supporting the work of other nonpartisan democracy organizations.
Your support makes this work possible. We operate from a place of hope and believe that by working together we can defend and expand our democracy, but it will take all of us. Please join us by making your tax-deductible donation today.
