Presenting world-class performances and connecting with audiences through concerts, education and outreach for over 30 years.

Greetings from the Minneapolis Guitar Quartet!

While the past year has been an uncertain and difficult one for all performers, we are thrilled that we can once again share our music with live audiences!  We are excited to announce that we have a wide selection of interesting new repertoire to perform this coming year, as part of a 2021-22 season that includes concerts in Minnesota, Iowa, Ohio, and a performance at the world-renowned Guitar Foundation of America festival this summer in Indianapolis.

MGQ has always distinguished itself through the commission and performance of new works and arrangements, and we’re thrilled to have a wide selection of new music to perform. In 2019, MGQ collaborated for the first time with flutist Linda Chatterton for the world premiere of ‘Balada del Bosque y el Ave’ for guitar quartet and flute by the great Leo Brouwer, the guitar world’s preeminent living composer. We are thrilled to be performing two new commissions that will add to our repertoire with flute, both of which will be premiered this coming season. “Chorinho em Cabo Verde” by Chicago-based Brazilian composer Clarice Assad and “Forests and Barrios” by American composer Aaron Travers will both be exciting additions to MGQ’s repertoire.

Additionally, we are continuing our collaboration with mezzo-soprano Clara Osowski, with whom we premiered “Scent Songs” by Minnesota composer Mary Ellen Childs in 2019. In October, MGQ premiered new arrangements for guitar quartet and voice of songs by Joaquin Rodrigo and Franz Schubert, and we are thrilled to continue performing this beautiful repertoire throughout the season!

We are also excited to announce that we will be commissioning a new piece for guitar quartet by excellent and promising young Minnesota composer, AJ Isaacson-Zvidzwa. We are great admirers of her work, and can’t wait for this exciting collaboration.

In order to continue this exciting and important work we are asking for your support! The costs of commissioning new repertoire and the many hours that go into preparing, rehearsing and performing are not fully supported by concert fees, particularly in these challenging times. We hope you know how important you are to our success, and we look forward to continuing to share our music with you.

We are grateful for your support!
