Parkinson's disease is a neurodegenerative disorder of unknown cause that affects nearly 5 million individuals worldwide. While advancing age remains the greatest risk factor, PD can strike people even under age 30. The full spectrum of Parkinson's disease is not well addressed by current treatments, which can only mask some symptoms as the underlying disease continues to worsen. The projects we fund generally fall into one of two categories: * Research exploring specific therapeutic approaches that will lead to the development of Parkinson's treatments * Research to develop tools and resources that will, in turn, speed the creation of Parkinson's treatments Source: www.michaeljfox.org
