Metcalf Junior High Celebrates 50 Year Anniversary

Metcalf Junior High has been in existence for over 50 years, having educated thousands of local residents, many who have remained in the community and have children in our school. 

Metcalf has a S.T.E.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) magnet program for 7th, 8th and 9th grade students with an emphasis on engineering in a collaborative, rigorous curriculum. Students are immersed in an interactive, project-based curriculum. They develop investigative skills and use technologies to identify problems and generate solutions. They learn to apply knowledge and skills to real world situations and experiences, as well as interacting with professionals in STEM related fields.

In addition Metcalf offers honors and AP classes as well as several options for electives. The AVID program is available for students to help prepare them for college. Our sports program has grown, offering everything from basketball, dance, soccer, skiing to cross country. Metcalf also offers many after-school activities such as our famous chess club, founded in 1985 by Metcalf Math teacher, Brian Ribnick. With 81 mem­bers, Met­calf ranks as Minnesota’s larg­est juni­or high team. The team has cap­tured 28 state cham­pion­ships and 14 na­tion­al ti­tles, and it’s reg­u­lar­ly ranked in the top five nationally. We have a flourishing Robotics Team that has won several awards at the Minnesota Robotics State Tournament. Current and past Metcalf S.T.E.M teams have won several awards at the Fluid Power Challenge at the University of Minnesota. 

Your generous donation will help us to continue to provide grants to our staff and students to cover everything from field trips, robotics competitions, books for our Media Center as well as simple things like binders and pencils to help our students stay organized.
