MACCRAY Public Schools Playgrounds

The mission of the MACCRAY School District is to provide an environment for individuals to become knowledgeable, respectful, independent lifelong learners who are positive contributors to society.  One way to accomplish these goals is to add movement, conflict resolution, fresh air, and imaginative play in a deep and rich manner throughout a student’s day.

Our plan is to provide a wide range of spaces that include physical and music education as well as independent play to meet the needs of our students both now and in the future. 

Outdoor space is a part of a school campus that can provide a wealth of opportunities for innovative learning, including from play. One area that we hope to invest in is the playgrounds and outdoor spaces. There will be an elementary school playground along with middle school outdoor spaces for recreation, creative, imaginative thinking, and movement.

The middle school space will include seating for reading, study, and potential garden spaces for classes to nurture.

The elementary playground will be used for traditional recess and physical education time, but we are also looking to create opportunities for middle school and high school classes to utilize the space in innovative ways using hard and grassy areas.   

We have surveyed populations of students such as special education, English Language, and general education as well as educators in our district to determine specifically what is wanted and needed.  All play and thinking outdoor areas will reflect their ideas.

Because it is vital to ensure that all students can take advantage of the valuable opportunities that these spaces will provide, we are working to ensure that all aspects not only meet ADA compliance but exceed.
