The Multicultural Autism Action Network (MAAN) was created by parents of autistic children from diverse communities who experienced many obstacles to obtaining supports and services first hand. Our vision is to ensure that autistic individuals and their families from multicultural communities have access to all necessary services to achieve their fullest potential and become contributing members of society. Our mission is to transform and empower multicultural communities by providing effective support and education for autistic children and their families.

We do this by:

  • Providing opportunities for growth, development, improved self-confidence, and greater independence for autistic individuals and their families in  multicultural communities.
  • Providing one-on-one support for families of autistic children in multicultural communities.
  • Providing hands-on training for parents and caregivers of autistic individuals in multicultural communities in order to promote confidence and reduce stress.
  • Conducting workshops, seminars, and information sessions for professionals, including law enforcement and medical professionals who work with individuals with autism and related conditions to promote cultural competency and understanding.
  • Working with providers serving multicultural communities to prepare information in culturally relevant formats.
  • Working with other organizations to make places in the community autism-friendly and accessible for all.
