Longfellow/Seward Healthy Seniors is a non-profit, community based organization serving older adults (seniors/elders) in the greater Longfellow and Seward communities of south Minneapolis. We serve around 600 local seniors annually by providing support services and various programs. Our mission is to enable community seniors to live healthy, independent and socially connected lives
Give To The Max 2025:
Older adults in our community can struggle to access food. Traditional food support services may be challenging for seniors due to transportation or mobility limitations. The ongoing government shutdown has strained food resources in our community.
LSHS helps combat food insecurity in older adults with $50 grocery gift cards from nearby stores.
Every $50 you donate to Longfellow/Seward Healthy Seniors for Give To The Max Day will go directly to purchasing a food gift card for an older adult in your community.
Our services include:
Sarah is an older adult who lives alone in our community. Her son Dan lives far away, and while he does his best to support her from afar, he worried about Sarah’s increasing isolation. That is where we stepped in. LSHS volunteers now provide Sarah with rides to our art classes and social events, allowing her to stay active and socially engaged. Our Community Nurse visits her, we have arranged for a letter-writing volunteer to send her uplifting cards twice a month, and for a Friendly Visitor volunteer to spend time with her at home. Whether they enjoy a long chat over coffee or venture out together, Sarah now has companionship and more opportunities for connection.
