Honoring Choices

Honoring Choices' mission is to educate, empower, and inspire individuals to engage in comprehensive advance care planning so their healthcare preferences for the future will be expressed and honored.

This season, Honoring Choices wants to let you know how grateful we are for YOU.

Thank you for your continued belief in the vital importance of completing your health care directive AND in having conversations with your families and loved ones about end-of-life care choices. We need your help to continue to not only educate others about the importance of making their wishes known, but to effectively move more people to ACTION across Minnesota and nationwide. A health care directive is one of the best gifts we can give to those whom we love. 

As we move into 2024, we are aware of the ever-increasing importance of our mission.  While we are finishing up the legal necessities of formally changing our name to Honoring Choices, we have already begun to take on an increasingly critical, statewide and national role, in addition to continuing the community work of Light the Legacy. We continue to need your help in our work! 

This coming year, we are excited to begin distributing our revised Honoring Choices Minnesota health care directive, which has not been updated in almost a decade. Once completed, we will need to have it translated into at least 7 languages and create educational documents and trainings that explain the changes and why they were made, along with guides for best practices and use. We hope to develop a video resource on these topics that can be widely distributed to our partners across the state, as well as a guide for our national partners on the process of revision and what was learned so health care directives across the country can be improved. 

Your support will also help ensure that we can continue to build capacity and service throughout the state - offering presentations, educational materials, and training volunteers to activate and empower their communities while sensitively guiding their neighbors through the work of advance care planning.  We are also developing new training modules for healthcare systems - building another layer of trained advance care planning advocates throughout the state. 

There is much to be done to ensure all people's wishes can be expressed and honored.

As you may know, we offer our services free of charge.
