Supporting NICU Families
In December 2012, our son was born 6 weeks early, with many physical abnormalities that required hospitalization, surgery, and home care. Gavin was in the NICU for 40 days at the University of Minnesota Children's hospital. While we were there we received a few home made items from families who walked the NICU road before us. Those items, even the simplest ones, meant the world to us!
We never could have predicted the journey that we would embark on in the NICU, and it is out of our journey that our passion for NICU families was born.
Our mission at LifeSong Ministry is to administer support to families in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) financially, emotionally and spiritually. We provide Bags of Love for families at the University of Minnesota Masonic Children's, Minneapolis Children's Hospital, and the Maple Grove Hospital. We also ship Boxes of Love across the nation to families walking the NICU road.
Not only do we provide Bags & Boxes of love, we also work closely with hospital social workers to connect with parents who are in need of more support. This year we have provided families with gas cards, cribs, car seats, and strollers. We take every opportunity to ease some of the financial burden families face, so they can focus on their little one!
We have also found that there are many older siblings who visit the hospital with their parents. While mom or dad connect with their little one, we provide them with some entertainment through Sibling Bags of Love. Whether it is a simple coloring book, puzzles, or a flashlight - we strive to help them feel connected while they visit their sibling.
