Lake City Historical Society

A nonprofit organization

With a year of celebrating the sesquicentennial of Lake City's municipal incorporation, and the 100th Anniversary of the invention of water skiing, wrapping up, our attention turns to the future. We are planning to grow! In 2022 we revamped our website, launched a YouTube channel and updated our Facebook page. In 2023 we will improve access to our archives and collection, both online and in person. Two dozen oral history recordings made decades ago will become available on the Minnesota Digital Library. We plan to seek and utilize grant funds to bring professional support to our organization.

Your contribution increases our capacity and assures that we can continue to tell the story of Lake City, Minnesota. We are in Dakota homeland, and within the historic Sioux Half-Breed Reserve at Lake Pepin. Lake City is the birthplace of water skiing.

The Lake City Historical Society is an all-volunteer 501.c.3 non-profit organization. The mission of the Lake City Historical Society is the collection, preservation, display and dissemination of knowledge about the history of Lake City, Minnesota and its related areas.
