La ola del Lago Parents and Teachers for Children (PTC) is committed to supporting our Spanish Immersion elementary students! La ola del lago (LODL) is a public elementary school that offers
Spanish immersion learning opportunities in Prior Lake/Savage. The mission of La ola del lago PTC is to work together to
promote school community, encourage involvement, and enhance the quality of
education provided to our children through our support, volunteering, and
financial assistance.
For the past three years, our school has been able to welcome
Amity Institute Interns from native Spanish-speaking countries to work within
the school directly with children and teachers. This has been an extremely
valuable gift to our children, giving them a deep understanding and
appreciation for diverse cultures, languages, and world perspectives. Amity
interns bring their own languages and culture to life, engage and motivate
students, and leave them with new confidence in their ability to communicate
across borders. Beginning with the 2017/2018 school year, the LODL PTC will be solely responsible for funding the Amity Intern Program and hosting six interns for the 2017-2018 school year, at a total cost of over $29,000. The LODL PTC and school
community will support the interns’ room and board needs through generous host
family commitments. The interns live with families of La ola del lago students during the school
year. These families pay for the interns’ living expenses out of their own
pockets because they so passionately believe in the vital role the interns play
in the education of our children.
In addition to funding the incredibly important intern program, the LODL PTC also funds student field trips, classroom supplies, school events, and other donations to the school including Spanish books for the library.
