Providing food to local food-insecure kids
The Jackson County Food 4 Kids Program exists to help feed local food-insecure children on days they are not in school. The program seeks to provide nutritious, healthy, child-friendly, single serving, non-perishable food items for breakfast, lunch, dinner and snack.
1 in 6 children in Jackson County do not have enough access to the amount of food necessary for a healthy life. We want to ensure that participating students will have the mental focus and energy to continue their education without the fear of going hungry when they go home.
Volunteers put together weekend packs, which include 3 suppers, 2 lunches, 2 breakfasts, and 3 snacks. School staff discreetly distribute the packs to participating children. For extended breaks, vouchers are provided to the children to be redeemed at their local grocery store to get a better selection for these meals and provide fresh food items that are not feasible in the normal weekend packs.
