Sharing Music | Sharing Joy
For 12 years, Hopewell's mission has been to improve access to music education in North Minneapolis through affordable, inclusive, and engaging music programs.
Studies prove that music-making students perform better in school, learning life-long lessons that empower them to succeed in all areas of their lives. Yet on the Northside, many students don’t have access to music education due to longstanding issues of inequity. As the effects of the pandemic continue to create instability, the need for creative outlets like music continues to grow.
Music is a powerful creative outlet that helps students process what is going on in their lives and in the world around them. Over the past few years, students have told us that taking music lessons has been therapeutic and helped them maintain a sense of consistency when everything else became uncertain.
“Doing music is a way for me to go to my happy place and just be fine in that moment.” -Sydney, Hopewell Alum

That’s why two Northside music teachers in 2012 decided to start the only comprehensive music school in North Minneapolis. By offering free and sliding scale rate programming Hopewell seeks to remove financial barriers to music education for the Northside community.
Longtime student Jeffrey in a piano lesson
Longtime student Jeffrey was just six years old when his parents enrolled him in Hopewell’s music programs when it was founded in 2012. His schools lacked strong music programs, so he took advantage of Hopewell’s ensemble offerings in addition to private lessons on piano. Jeffrey, now a junior in high school, has flourished as a multi-instrumentalist; taking up guitar, percussion, saxophone, and singing, along with continuing his piano education. He has become an avid performer, composer, and has even moved on to become an instructor himself at Hopewell Music! We could not be more proud of him and are excited to see what his future holds. You can help us make sure that students like Jeffrey and Sydney continue to have access to the life-changing benefits of music by donating today!
