The Need Is Real

Did you know Breast Cancer treatment costs are between $20,000-$100,000? On average, $20,000 of that expense is not covered by insurance. With that in mind, now consider that the majority of Americans have $5,000 or less in savings and 35% have $1000 or less. The disparity between the cost of medical treatment and the average American's savings makes a breast cancer diagnosis financially, emotionally, and physically devastating.

The Hope Chest for Breast Cancer Foundation was founded 23 years ago (November 2001) with the mission to provide help and hope to Minnesota breast cancer patients. There are about 4,800 new cases of breast cancer diagnosed among women each year in Minnesota, and for many the journey to recovery can strain their financial stability. That is where the Hope Chest Foundation likes to help, alleviating some of the non-medical burdens by providing grants to cover their mortgage or rent, pay for a month of groceries or the utility bills, provide transportation help, and alleviate adult/childcare costs

Each year many people battle this disease where approximately 13% (one in eight) of U.S. women will develop invasive breast cancer in the course of their life. Receiving the words, “You have breast cancer,” can bring worry and stress to the patient, their family, and friends. As a recent patient wrote to us – “I'm so grateful for the gift! I'm actually pretty speechless at the moment and filled with appreciation and absolute joy! I'm not the type of person who wins things and now I feel like the Universe just granted me a pot of lottery gold! Thank you for your support in my healing journey.”
