We are devoted to the care of unwanted, stray or abused animals in the form of providing vet care, housing and adoption in McLeod County.
We are a charitable organization and over the past few years we have found homes for hundreds of cats and dogs. We hold several events each year to raise the money that allow us to remain open. We also rely heavily on volunteers for our everyday operations and fundraising efforts.
The Raise the Woof Campaign is still going strong.
Working towards a new dog building will take us time, but we WILL get there!
This campaign adds another layer of work and effort by our Board, volunteers, staff, and community partners. We not only need to ensure we have enough funds for food, veterinary care, kennel care, and enrichment supplies, but we are working toward raising additional funds for a new building and its operating expenses.
Having our HMAS family in one location will ensure efficiencies are optimal for staffing, volunteer opportunities, event planning, operating expenses, and care/wellness routines.
Providing the best care, while looking at future demands on our potential rescue reach and community needs, holds true to our mission. We could not do what we do without YOU! Your support allows us to focus on the emotional needs, while lessening the worries about the financial aspects of animal rescue. We appreciate you more than we could possibly express.

VOLUNTEERS...
We can always use more man power. If you are interested in volunteering, please stop by our main building during adoption hours and fill out a volunteer application. If you have a talent, we can use it...if you don't want to work directly with the animals, we have plenty of behind-the-scene projects available too.
FOSTER HOMES NEEDED....
We need foster homes for dogs and cats. All of our animals can benefit from a vacation from the shelter. Some of our teenage kittens have spent their whole lives in cat condos, and never had the chance to claim a chair as their very own. If you don't have time to volunteer man hours, volunteer your lap for petting kitties. Give a shelter kitty a break and welcome them into your home. Help bring that shy kitty out of his shell so he's more adoptable. We also have plenty of dogs that could use extra obedience training and a change of scenery from the shelter. Teach a shelter dog new tricks, and help socialize them for their fur-ever family. PET OF THE WEEK ADS...
We are always looking for sponsors for our pet of the week ads that appear weekly in the Hutchinson Leader Shopper. Please contact us if you are interested in sponsoring one of our animals. It's a great way to get the word out about our available animals. It's $25 to sponsor a pet for a week.
ADOPT A NEW FRIEND...
Through a partnership with PetSmart of Hutchinson, we now have cats available for adoption 7 days a week at their facility. Please visit PetSmart to find your new feline friend. Alternatively, we have dogs and cats available during our adoptions hours: Tuesdays and Thursdays 5-7pm and Saturdays 1-5pm. You'll find a list of available animals on our website.
