Girls Dream Code

A nonprofit organization

Girls Dream Code is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization aiming to empower young minority and low-income girls (ages 10-17) to pursue an interest in technology by providing free tech workshops, events & resources. Our mission is to promote opportunities in technology, learn tech skills, decrease the gender & diversity gap in tech, increase inclusivity, and create a safe space for young girls to feel comfortable and excel in all that they do.

Our STEM education youth development program, Code Your Path, is a free fun and educational program that introduces girls of color & low income girls to tech activities & skills. In this program, youth learn about coding and software development and gain hands-on technology experience as they collaboratively work on a web app project or a mobile app project. Our CodeTalkz program is where we host one-off workshops on a variety of other tech topics such as programming languages, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and virtual reality.

Women of color make up only 12% of the technology workforce, according to a recent study. People of color, more specifically, African Americans, have a lower median household income compared to their white counterparts. By providing education of these important tech skills at an early age, youth will gain the access that they need to find those higher paying tech jobs when they are ready to enter the workforce. Girls Dream Code inspires youth to be great and innovative, decrease the gender & diversity gap and increase inclusivity, and help youth build transferable technical skills to compete in the workforce.

A generous donation will help cover the costs of program & organizational operations, educational materials, supplies and food to the youth in our programs. We would be able to allocate more time to collaborating with local schools and community centers in the local area to form partnerships and address the barriers to technology and provide STEM education to the underserved girls of color in the communities. We would be able to purchase laptops for girls that do not have one so that they can still participate in our programs and pay instructors to facilitate our programs.

Help us continue to grow and make an impact in the lives of young girls of color. We hope to further their interest in tech and aspire to be great and innovate!

Girls Dream Code thanks you in advance for your support and generosity!
