Friends of the Headwaters (FOH) organized in January of 2014 to represent the concerns of northern Minnesota’s citizens, lake associations, and environmental activists. During the last nine years, FOH has led legal and procedural challenges that kept new Enbridge oil pipelines out of northern Minnesota, delaying Line 3 permits until November of 2020.

To ensure that Minnesota opposition would have a place at the table during the pipeline approval process, FOH went to court in 2014 and won the first court-ordered Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) on an oil pipeline in Minnesota. While we are concerned about other issues, our consistent priority has been keeping new tar sands oil pipelines out of northern Minnesota's shallow aquifers, porous soils, numerous wetlands, and clean water.

Friends of the Headwaters doesn't spend your donations on salaried staff, media events, peripheral agendas, or rented offices. We’re a 501(c)3 organization, but the same small group of volunteers that came together in 2014 is still working at our kitchen tables.

Your previous tax-deductible contributions to FOH were dedicated to legal, educational, and procedural initiatives that kept Alberta’s oil in the soil.  Currently, we are focused on two priorities:

*Ensuring that Minnesota taxpayers don't get stuck paying for Enbridge's decommissioned or stranded assets when the company decides that Line 3 is no longer profitable.

*Ensuring that Minnesota's environmental agencies hold Enbridge accountable for the spills of dilbit fluid, the pierced aquifers, and other construction damages to Minnesota water and wetlands.

We are grateful for your support.  THANK YOU for your wise words, generous donations, and steady encouragement.
