Friends of the Bluffs

To increase the enjoyment, promotion, and stewardship of Red Wing's bluffs.

What We Do!

-Educate so residents and visitors know how to access and use the bluffs

-Encourage everyday use and special events to increase fun, pride, and ownership

-Promote the bluffs locally and regionally to strenghten Red Wing's identity as a vibrant outdoor-recreation community

-Improve and maintain the bluffs and their trails

-Inform the public on policies and activities that affect Red Wing's bluffs

-Fundraise for projects that increase awareness, safety beauty, quality, and accessibility

Friends of the Bluffs formalized and gained funding through the Red Wing Idea Slam, an event open to the community and sponsored by the Southeast Minnesota Initiative Foundation (SMIF), where roughly 100 residents gathered to brainstorm projects focused around Red Wing’s assets. Twenty-three ideas were narrowed by the attendees to seven for further development. Six weeks later, a local voting committee listened to presentations and chose three projects to grant, including Friends of the Bluffs.
