Friends of the Bemidji Public Library

We are a group of individuals who are interested in books and libraries. Our main purpose is to enhance literacy in the community we serve. We strive to focus public attention on library services, facilities, and needs to encourage gifts and memorials for the library. We provide direct financial assistance by purchasing for the library special and unusual items which would be of great benefit but are not covered by the library's annual operating budget. Our goal is to heighten community awareness and use of the library; and to sponsor programs designed to enhance literacy in the community.

We operate the Red Door Bookstore inside the library with books, records, DVD's, videos, audio books, and puzzles donated by the public.  90 percent of the monthly profits are given quarterly to the library for purchase of books, audio books and DVD's. We also financially sponsor special literacy programs run by the library.

In addtion we give financial support to the children's programming throughout the year, Adult winter reading program and our Books for Babies project.
