For 37 years, using a three-pronged strategy of Educating Grassroots Practitioners, Advocating for Systemic Change, and Capitalizing Indian Communities, First Nations has been working to restore Native American control and culturally-compatible stewardship of the assets they own – be they land, human potential, cultural heritage or natural resources – and to establish new assets for ensuring the long-term vitality of Native communities. First Nations serves rural and reservation-based Native American communities throughout the United States.

With the support of individuals, foundations, corporate and tribal donors, First Nations Development Institute improves economic conditions for Native Americans through technical assistance & training, advocacy & policy, and direct financial grants in five key areas:

·         Financial & Investor Education

·         Combating Predatory Lending

·         Native American Business & Asset Development

·         Strengthening Native American Nonprofits

·         Native Foods & Health

Through mid-year 2017, First Nations has successfully managed 1,345 grants totaling more than $28.9 million to Native American projects and organizations in 39 states, the District of Columbia and U.S. Territory American Samoa.
