Foundation For Essential Needs (FFEN) is an entrepreneurial, innovative and nimble nonprofit focused on increasing the effectiveness and efficiency of local food shelves. FFEN engages skilled, pro-bono volunteers to offer pragmatic, no-cost consultation and equipment improvements to food shelves adapting to meet the changing needs of their community. Since 2013, FFEN has positively impacted nearly 200 food shelves in Minnesota. This local work informs FFEN’s broader efforts in supporting both professional development opportunities and advocating for systems change at the local, regional and statewide levels. FFEN’s multi-level approach is essential to creating a statewide hunger relief sector that ensures equitable access to healthy food through a welcoming and dignified experience for those who receive it.

This year, food shelves are seeing more demand for food from their community with limited funds and food resources to respond to that need. In times like these, FFEN’s services are critically important. FFEN’s no-cost consultation helps food shelves focus limited energy and resources to ensure more fresh food, increase visit frequency, and welcoming shopping experiences.

Our fundraising goal of $70,000 is our biggest yet, but with generous donors like you, we know we can meet or exceed that goal. And $22,500 in matching funds will give your donation the maximum impact for food shelves and their communities. Special thanks to our matching funders for getting us so much closer to our goal:

- Kohrs Family Trust
- Kurt & Nancie Klitzke
- Dr. O’Neil & Dr. Klodus
- John & Rebecca Sperling
