Everyday Miracles is a Minneapolis-based non-profit serving families during the pregnancy year. Founded in 2003 by Debby Prudhomme and Mary Williams, we are built on the belief that every pregnant person has a right to culturally competent, evidence-based prenatal care; that every individual should be supported and celebrated during pregnancy, birth and beyond.
We offer a wide range of services to pregnant people and their families, including birth doula support; childbirth, breast/chestfeeding and postpartum education; car seats and breast pumps; and wellness support services, all within a supportive and nonjudgmental community.
Our mission is to improve birth outcomes and reduce health disparities, particularly in populations at increased risk for poor birth outcomes. For this reason, our CORE Program is available to birthing persons with Medicaid health insurance plans, and through this program most of our services are available at zero out-of-pocket cost.
And our efforts are working! A 2016 study from The University of Minnesota School of Public Health showed that our clients had lower than average rates of C-sections and pre-term births, which can both result in higher rates of birth defects and infant mortality. Additionally, our 2018 statistics yielded impressive results: across 302 births (including 280 clients with Medicaid insurance), our doulas' support of birthing clients helped achieve a 3% prematurity rate; 9% C-section rate; <1% babies with low birth weight; and 96%, 76% and 51% breast/chestfeeding rates at birth, 6 months, and 12 months, respectively.
However, our services are truly for ALL families. Through our KARMA Program, we offer sliding-scale fees and accessible pricing of doula support and childbirth education to individuals with private health insurance plans. The revenue generated from the participation of our KARMA clients directly supports our CORE Program, helping ensure happier, healthier and more equitable birth experiences for all families.
Join us in our efforts to make sure every pregnant person is educated, empowered, and supported throughout their pregnancy, and that every baby has the opportunity for a healthy, peaceful start in life.
