Grassroots Decisions Meet Grassroots Energy

We are building relationships, popular education resources, and power within communities for an energy future that is CLEAN, LOCAL, EQUITABLE, AFFORDABLE, & RESILIENT. We believe in our hearts that our leverage, and our solutions come at the local level.

Examples of our Energy Democracy work:

  1. Organizing nonpartisan voter and candidate education on energy democracy during Minneapolis local elections, since 2013.
  2. Building up an Energy Navigators program to connect community members to join real-life energy efficiency projects that lower living costs, mitigate climate change, and deepen democracy in their community. Recently we hired two new energy efficiency navigators and hope to the grow the program with your support!
  3. Intervening for energy justice in ways that bring concrete benefit to our everyday lives, think of the Minneapolis Climate Equity Plan where we have been active as part of the Just Transition Fund Coalition.
  4. Taking opportunities to make the cost savings and health benefits of energy efficiency, weatherization and community solar gardens more accessible to a greater number of people. Think of our work with the CLEAR Coalition fighting the recent MN Senate Energy Omnibus that would have sunsetted our state's nation-leading Community Solar program.
  5. Bringing an equity and power analysis into energy decision-making processes, which bypass the "forcefields of tedium" and the jargon that the big power players use to protect themselves.
  6. Helping achieve satisfactory outcomes in past Xcel and CenterPoint rate case decisions, keeping what we pay in our monthly utility bills reasonable.
  7. Making abundant public comments in the decision-making processes that govern the sources of energy for Xcel and CenterPoint (Xcel's Integrated Resource Plan, CenterPoint's Natural Gas Innovation Act plan.)
  8. Holding decision-makers accountable to actively invite, include, and be responsive to community-based groups and community members rather than just utilities, government agencies, and big "power players."
