Travel safety knowledge saves lives. A mom called recently to thank us - Depart Smart's Travel Safety Certification Course taught her daughter how to avoid risks abroad by using OSAC Crime & Safety Reports for Indonesia. Her daughter refused to rent a moped in Bali on a gap week while studying abroad, because she learned that mopeds are a leading cause of tourist injury and death there. Her classmates weren't as prepared, and ended up in the hospital after crashing their moped.

Now we are driven to scale and reach more travelers than ever by integrating our services into employee wellness programs. 

Our Story

Founders Allen and Sheryl Hill's 16-year-old son, Tyler died a preventable death on a People to People Ambassador trip to Japan. His life would have been saved with timely and appropriate medical attention. There is evidence he asked for a medical care but none was provided. Tyler tried to dial 911.  The emergency number for an ambulance in Japan is 119.  His story repeats again and again.  The Hills founded Depart Smart to save lives so his story stops repeating.
