Mulu is a devout Ethiopian Orthodox Christian from a war-torn area of East Africa. After losing her family to violence, she escaped to the United States as a refugee.

When she arrived here, she had no place to stay and relied on her new community to help her. She spent months sleeping on a friend's porch until her Case Worker was able to connect her with Clare Housing. See her reaction as she arrives at her home at Clare Housing for the very first time!

Your donation makes home, health, and hope possible for residents like Mulu.

Around 1,000 Minnesotans living with HIV will be homeless or insecurely housed tonight. When you're worried about where you'll sleep, it's easy to imagine why people often struggle to take the medications they need to keep healthy.

The results of this situation are dire, sometimes deadly:

  • Poor health
  • Disability and the inability to work
  • Increased costly emergency room visits
  • Increased high-risk sexual behavior and drug use

Fortunately, we have an answer. We know how to solve this problem.

Research has proven that providing supportive housing and access to health care increases the odds of people sticking to complex drug treatments, improves health outcomes, and decreases the use of emergency and hospital services.

Additionally, people who are stably housed demonstrate significant reductions in behaviors associated with HIV transmission including high-risk sexual behavior and drug use.

There is an answer. We can house those who are homeless and living with HIV. You can be a part of that solution today when you make your donation. Thank you!

Clare Housing is an innovative leader of supportive housing for people living with HIV for over 30 years. Over the last decade, we have grown from serving 8 people to an average of 245 on any given day. We are committed to being responsive to inevitable changes in need and economic conditions of people living with HIV.

It is our belief that all people living with HIV should have access to affordable, safe, and stable housing with the supportive services they need to lead satisfying lives.
