Circus Juventas is celebrating 22 years of teaching ordinary kids to do extraordinary things!
Circus Juventas, a performing arts circus school for youth, is dedicated to inspiring artistry and self-confidence through a multi-cultural circus arts experience.
Thousands of students who enter our Big Top have gained strength, balance, grace, and grit as they master the performing circus arts. We have seen shy and insecure children blossom into confident young people who swing on trapezes, jump from dizzying heights, and take the center ring with the poise of a professional. These accomplishments in the spotlight can translate into confidence and mastery in the classroom and in preparation for future life goals.
Our international coaching staff and year-round educational program serves nearly 2,000 students each year, and Circus Juventas is now the largest performing arts youth circus in North America.
Many of the students who come to Circus Juventas do so after trying other activities where they didn't “fit in.” Some don’t make first string on a sports team; others face physical or other obstacles to participation in traditional team activities or arts programs. These are just the kinds of children and youth who benefit most from Circus Juventas.
Partnerships and Outreach Programs
Need-based scholarships are awarded to about 200 young people each year, about 20% of our year-round students.
We continue to foster our
"WINGS" program, working with youth and young adults with
disabilities. A few years ago we launched "Out of the Chair,"
a program for young adults with spinal cord injuries. This year, in addition to
our long-standing program with Neighborhood House, we continued our partnership
with Big Brother Big Sisters, offering free tuition to dozens of
"littles" in the Twin Cities community, and established a new
partnership with The Salvation Army, allowing students to participate in one of
our many Circus Experience class offerings.
We are excited to have started an extensive partnership with HealthPartners. Our new partners in health will be working with staff and coaches to develop programming that promotes a healthy lifestyle, injury prevention, and other advantageous practices for our athletes/artists-in-training!
A Bigelow Foundation grant allowed us to provide 12 workshops to St. Paul Public School students, expanding the reach of circus to even more young people in more communities than ever before. Through the MN State Arts Board, we were able to provide off-site classes to St. Paul middle school students in partnership with their after school "Flipside" program.
Why support Circus
We rely on generous donors, volunteers, parents, and others to help us be inclusive and accessible to all families. This year, our annual goal is to raise a total of $150,000 to help us maintain the quality, affordability, and accessibility of our programs. Your donation will help us achieve our goals:
- Keep ticket prices affordable
- Keep class fees stable
- Provide need-based student scholarships
- Subsidize the cost of performances and field trips for public schools
- Expand our specialty programs for young people with disabilities
- Continue our work in schools, bringing circus to students who wouldn’t otherwise find it accessible
