Christians for Biblical Equality

A nonprofit organization

The mission of CBE International (Christians for Biblical Equality) is to eliminate the power imbalance between men and women resulting from theological patriarchy. CBE exists to promote the biblical message that God calls women and men of all cultures, races, and classes to share authority equally in service and leadership in the home, church, and world. We educate and advocate through conferences, publications, blog, radio, eLearning courses, social media, and ministry partnerships.

CBE was founded in 1988 in response to churches and organizations that were using misinterpreted/mistranslated Bible texts to prohibit women from answering their call to lead beside men. It was determined that an organization was needed to provide education, advocacy, and leadership concerning women’s biblical equality.

CBE seeks to dismantle the patriarchy practiced and taught as biblical by individuals, churches, and organizations. Prohibiting women from fully exercising their God-given gifts, in leadership and service to the church, home, and world, constitutes injustice that impoverishes the body of Christ and its ministry in the world. CBE International is part of God's work to oppose injustice as required in Scripture. Recognizing that patriarchy is a root cause of female marginalization and oppression, including domestic abuse, CBE works to promote the Bible's call for women’s equality and to correct biblical distortions that justify male dominance.
