$16,000 Goal

We are raising funds that will go towards 3 upcoming projects.

1. Shoua and the Northern Lights Dragon.  We were fortunate to receive a grant to commission MN composer, Jocelyn Hagen to create brand new music to accompany MN author, Ka Vang's story, Shoua and the Northern Lights Dragon.  The musical story will be audio and video recorded to be shared at not cost with libraries, schools, and audiences around the world!  Our project will require a $5000 match to complete.

2. BREATHE Collective.  Alongside 4 woodwind quintets throughout the country we commissioned and created a music video for a new work by Gary Powell Nash, "Stop for Equity"

The Breathe Collective is a commissioning and recording project that grew out of a response to some of the events of 2020. Our goal is to engage underrepresented and marginalized composers in the creation of new works for winds that highlight the significance of breath within a cultural narrative around systemic racism, police brutality against the black community, and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The collective plans to continue our initiative of commissioning underrepresented composers for many years to come, and GiveMN donations will go towards this worthy project.  Our next commission/video will require approximately $7500 in funds.

3. qUINTENS!VE Chamber Music Camp.  Chione’s members teach a 5 day chamber music day camp  for middle and high school students in locations throughout the Twin Cities. This day camp aims to expose participants to works and modes of performance that they might not otherwise experience.  Activities include seminars and classes led by Chione members including a course on entrepreneurship, individual lessons for all students, chamber group rehearsals and coachings, and a final performance to the public. Enrollment in quINTENS!VE increased exponentially over the camp’s second and third seasons, due in part to the availability to students of scholarship funds.  Future plans include the expansion of the scholarship fund, as well as the establishment of an adult chamber music day camp.

The pandemic altered the structure of camp slightly over the last 2 years, however during our 3rd year (and largest camp) Chione was able to give partial or full scholarships to 3/4 of our students.  We plan to continue this initiative of allowing an equitable opportunity for all students to attend camp no matter what their situation.  Funds donated throughout our GiveMN fundraiser will go towards camp and student scholarships.
