St Paul Central High School - 150+ Years Strong! The moment is NOW to support students and families
To call out 2020 as a unique year would be a huge understatement. In so many ways the Central community has adapted and responded AND remained steadfast in our values to support and connect students and families. We fully acknowledge that there is still much left unknown and uncertain as we head into 2021. In light of these complexities, the Central PAC is offering up a fundraising effort that will be personalized based on each family’s unique circumstances.
*This year we are less concerned about a monetary goal and more dedicated to raising the number of donors from 290 Central Supporters to 440 Central Supporters - that means we are looking for "150" new donors! We have a very special donor who will announce their dedicated gift to us when we reach "150" new donors.
We are reaching out to the whole Central High School community to come together and can give whatever they are able to give in these times. A gift of $5 is just as valued as a gift of $500.
This year has exhausted all of us, and yet the need is still there. Central’s most vulnerable students have a high need for online resources that boost distance learning, tutoring and other academic support services. We plan to empower our teachers to continue to meet those needs. That’s where our focus of funding will be this year: striving to make sure that the access to a quality and equitable public education doesn’t get any deeper or wider within the constraints of Distance Learning.
We are ALL Central High School - but what is PAC?
In this moment, your St. Paul Central PAC (Parent Advisory Council) is here to showcase and support one of the greatest aspects of St. Paul’s Central High School: THE PEOPLE. And that means ALL of us, current students, parents, families, alumni, staff, teachers, neighbors and friends. Together, we are all Central. And together we are strong.
In 2019-2020, before the pandemic struck, PAC paid for things like the 9th grade retreat, student planners, bus tokens for students who stayed after school for tutoring, and performances from outside artists. PAC also paid for meals for Central teachers and staff during conferences throughout the school year. In the spring PAC also helped fund the 2020 ‘Graduation in a Bag’ effort. Over 350 bags were delivered to the homes of graduates. PAC also provided Central staff care packages that included a Central Strong mask that became a much coveted 2020 accessory. Once we went into Distance Learning PAC quickly adapted and responded to the needs teachers had; PAC funded educational essentials such as materials, supplies and equipment needed for teaching from home—as well as online subscriptions and services.
The year 2020-2021 school year has opened up even more opportunities for the Central Community — a new Central High School administrative team, new PAC leadership, a pandemic, and a worldwide movement for justice sparked by the murder of George Floyd — all colliding within the span of a few months. While PAC has always been about closing the achievement gap at Central we are reaffirming that commitment as a group of stakeholders (parents, teachers, students, former students, staff and administrators) focused on racial equity and a vision for better representation of the people and potential of Central High School.
A gift to Central’s PAC will:
Support teachers as they continue to meet the challenges of Distance Learning 2.0 with ingenuity and creativity. That means providing equipment, supplies, online learning support and anything else teachers and staff need and ask us for.
Lift up opportunities that increase academic access and success for our most vulnerable students.
Highlight efforts that use a racial equity lens to support and enhance the education of all students, with a focus on eliminating barriers and providing equitable opportunities for students of color.
We know times are tight. We know you have been tapped to give in more ways than you could have ever imagined a year ago. AND we are so appreciative that you see yourself and your family as part of the Central community that lifts up every student to thrive.
Again, OUR GOAL is to get support from 350 families. This year we do not have a dollar goal because while the money is important, more important is building our community’s capacity to care for each other and take care of our school and students. We will be here, waiting for that joyful moment when we all can climb those stairs, throw open the doors and return to our beloved St. Paul Central High School.
Thank you, thank you for all you do and have done for the Central community.
And! Don’t forget to sign up for the facebook page. This is a great space to create community and share resources. We will be together again.
