Central has a history of 116 years of ministry. Originally a Swedish congregation, now Central reflects congregants from many different backgrounds. Central seeks to be an urban intergenerational congregation that cares about its immediate community. The commitment to the community is evidenced through programs like after school tutoring, a literacy program, a full day childcare, weekly meals, midweek activites for community children youth, a food shelf, and MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers).
